Open Air Painting in Bacolod City

Having a creative block is part of an artist’s life. Artists struggle to find the motivation to move on from one place and overcome an art block. In this pandemic, artists find it hard to grasp productivity and creativity. Aside from the scarcity of materials and ideas, social interactions and change of scenery gets limited. The flow of creativity goes to a pause, ideas remain incomplete. However, there are some routines that could encourage artists to overcome an art block, little by little.Last May 7, 2022, Unstuck held its open air painting activity at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon, Bacolod City. Student artists from different schools were invited to participate in the event. A couple of tips like listening to music, doodling, and conversing with a companion while breathing fresh air were exercised by the participants to jumpstart from their hiatus.According to Maeden Faye de los Santos, taking a break, going outside and reconnecting with friends or fellow artists helped a lot in creating art. “We all need companions at some point,” she added.Art has a big role in society. Art records history and becomes the voice of people. Without art, the world would be limited to a few ways in expressing emotions and ideas.Maeden concludes, “We artists express our thoughts and voice out through the different mediums we know. May it be dancing, singing or visual arts. I think an artist's art block affects society at some point. We lose an artist, we lose another 'voice'.”
